CFCCA Associate Curators
CFCCA works with 4 Asia-based Associate Curators to strengthen and inform our understanding of developments in East Asia. Their appointment increases our networks in this region, strengthened by our international Residency programme, international research trips by staff and Board members, and current international partners.
The Associate Curators will contribute field research to our Annual Report as well as proposing exhibitions, residencies or projects for our artistic programme going forward. Each Associate specialises in one of the four key strands of our artistic programming.

1. The international influence of Chinese Culture:
Non-Chinese artists making work about Chinese culture or concepts, collaborations between Chinese and non-Chinese artists and Chinese artists drawing on cultural references.
Beatrice Leanza
Beatrice Leanza is a Beijing based curator and critic, Creative Director of Beijing Design Week 2013 and founder of BAO Atelier. Beatrice’s focus is on multidisciplinary, cross border practices. She has an impressive international CV as a curator, writer and consultant working with major Chinese artists, contemporary art institutions and festivals worldwide. It is worth noting she was managing director of China Art Archive and Warehouse, Beijing, and continues to work with its founder Ai Wei Wei.
2. Social engagement/ relational work:
Work that operates in social contexts, emphasises participation and exist largely outside of private spaces, often creating social environments.
Lu Pei-Yu
Lu Pei-Yu has a related PhD from University of London, writes for numerous contemporary art journals and curates mainly in Taiwan, with connections in Australia via a curatorial residency in Sydney. She has written for a number of internationally significant publications and teaches MA in Taipei.

3. New trends – up-and-coming talent:
Artists that are coming to the fore or themes and concepts pertinent in current artistic practice and discourse.
Biljana Ciric
Biljana Ciric is based in Shanghai, with a significant track record of curating across East Asia and the West. She writes for many major international publications including Art Asia Pacific, Paletten, Yishu journal, Flash Art, Frieze, Leap and has written and edited a number of relevant books including publications by CFCCA (under our former name Chinese Arts Centre).

4. Broader visual culture:
In 2013/14 CFCCA has a focus on design through research and exhibition in both galleries.
Pan Jianfeng
Pan Jianfeng is a design practitioner based in Shanghai. Pan is one of China’s foremost type face creators and design strategists. He is Director of SHTYPE – an award winning design company which develops both commercial and experimental work. He has curated across East Asia and in the West and writes on design for China Art Weekly.
