Q&A: Josh Feola, Founder of Independent Music Platform Pangbianr

On 23/08/2013 by Site Default

Pangbianr is an online platform for exploring contemporary art and underground music in China, providing online mp3s, original films, interviews, and articles, as well as organizing concerts. BLOUIN ARTINFO China asked Pangbianr founder Josh Feola to share the motivation behind the site, and recommend some upcoming music releases and events.

Why did you start Pangbianr?

We established Pangbianr as a way to participate more deeply and more seriously in the Beijing music scene. The critical point was actually my interest in new bands and the atmosphere in Beijing in 2010. The Zoomin’ Night series at the now-defunct D22 and the now-disbanded Rose Mansion Analog were especially interesting.

Pangbianr was originally a website that a few Beijing friends and I created. We liked concerts, drinking, and talking about the things that most interested us: art, music, film, and organic food. At the time, we held occasional events related to these areas. However, Pangbianr is now entirely focused on music, and most of the original members have left Beijing.
