Christie’s Gallery Opens in Hong Kong

On 28th February, Christie’s auction house opened its first Asian gallery. The James Christie Room has 250+ square metres of viewing space, and will host curated exhibitions, charity events, art forums, sales and auctions.

An opening exhibition entitled “Best of the Best” will run until 15th March, with works of modern and contemporary Asian art, Chinese ceramics and paintings and Impressionist, post-war, modern and contemporary Western art. The show includes work by Sotheby’s auction star Zeng Fanzhi, and Xu Beihong.

On the context of the new gallery venture, François Curiel, Chairman of Christie’s Asia Pacific, is quoted in the press release as saying:

“Our record results for Asia in 2013 demonstrate the growing demand and appreciation for art and culture in this region. This strong performance gives us confidence to invest further in our business in Hong Kong.”
